Scientific Name: Vulpes vulpes

Size:  approx 135mm

One of a kind skull of an Australian Red Fox. This one's pretty weird. When I was cleaning it, it fell apart due to the bones not being fused properly, especially around the fontanelle and zygomatic arches. This is usually indicative of a juvenile individual, especially when coupled with the fact that the bottom rear molars look to still be coming through.

Bizarrely though, the wear and breaks on its teeth look like that of a super old geriatric fox! The only thing I can think of is extreme malnutrition

This fox was shot as part of a pest control scheme in NSW

Has been beetle cleaned, degreased, and whitened
